Review of Z (1969) by Zed L — 17 Aug 2010
A tight, compelling whydunnit that is extremely thrilling in its investigatory premise. We know all the details and watching each side come together in the knowledge of how everything fits together is a fascinating approach.
The cinematography, music, and editing stand out, and magnificently fit in with Costa-Gavras' documentarian approach. The immediacy is grasping and I was pulled in for the whole two hours. It stands as an important cultural statement for its time period (since it's based loosely on historical events), and what we're left with now, without the time period to stand beside it, is a unique thriller.
