Review of Z for Zachariah (1984) by Dani T — 30 Jul 2016
An intriguing setup based on one of the great Robert C. O'Brien's novels, squandered on unnecessarily slow and laboured pacing. Although this is one of Robbie's better performances, she feels out of place and miscast.
Her southern mannerisms too overwrought to come across as soft and natural as they need to. Everything about the end of the world looks too tidy, too clean, too polished, from the hair and make-up, to the performances, to Ann's house.
And ultimately, the film makes no commitment either way on its themes.
